What is playground turf for?
Falls. A play surface exists to make the ground softer than the equipment above it, and the company’s own description of Playground Grass starts there: a soft, cushioned surface with a shock absorbing foundation that reduces the risk of injury from a fall.
The comparison it draws is with loose-fill surfaces and poured-in-place rubber. Loose fill scatters, needs topping up and ends up in shoes. Rubber is safe and looks like rubber. Playground Grass is meant to give the cushioning with a surface that looks like grass and stays where it was laid.
What does the company say about Playground Grass?
In its own words, from the product page:
- Stays in place. Engineered not to displace under vigorous play, with limited locked-in
infill rather than loose fill.
- Safety rated. The company says the surface meets or exceeds industry standards for child
safety; ask for the rating for your installation.
- ADA compliant. Wheelchair and crutch users can cross it, so the play area is open to
children of all abilities.
- Antistatic and antimicrobial. Built into the grass.
- UV protected. Colour that holds in full Florida sun.
- Groomed twice a year. That is the published maintenance, with no mowing or watering.
What do PlayMounds add?
Hills. PlayMounds are prefabricated shapes, an EPS foam core with a protective EPP foam layer, bonded with urethane adhesive to a nailer board and covered in the same playground grass, so a flat play area gets contours to climb and roll down with a shock absorbing structure underneath. The company says they meet ASTM safety standards, come in a range of shapes and sizes, and carry a service warranty on the installation.
The published settings are public playgrounds, residential communities and HOAs, schools, recreation centres, theme parks, sports complexes, shopping centres, daycare facilities, and healthcare and therapy facilities.
Who in Okaloosa County is this built for?
Schools and daycares in Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Destin and Mary Esther, where a surface has to be safe, inspected and open to every child. HOAs and community associations, where the common area play space is the board’s responsibility and loose fill is a maintenance line every year. Parks. And back yards, where a small play area goes in beside a lawn or a dog run, often in one project.
How is it installed?
The same three stages as every ForeverLawn Emerald Coast job: a free consultation on site, a written proposal, then the install, with the site prepared and graded, base material laid, and the grass cut, seamed and secured. For a playground the base is where the shock absorption lives, so it is the part to ask about. Timelines across the company’s work run from a day to 12 weeks. The main installation guide covers the stages.
What does it cost?
The area, whether PlayMounds are part of it, how much base work the ground needs, and access for the crew. A written quote follows the consultation, and financing is available. The cost page explains what moves a figure.
Where do I start?
850-812-3388 or the contact form. The office at 648 Lovejoy Rd NW, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548 is open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the surfaces are easier to judge underfoot. The service area page covers the rest of the coast.
Questions we get asked
Is it safe under swings and climbing frames?
That is what the cushioned foundation is for. Ask for the safety rating for the fall height of the equipment you have, because the rating depends on what is installed under the grass.
Does it get hot in summer?
Any surface in full Florida sun gets warm. The grass is UV protected for colour, and shade over a play area is worth planning in whatever the surface is.
How is it cleaned?
A hose and a leaf blower for day to day, and grooming twice a year by the company’s own guidance. The antimicrobial is built into the grass.
Can it go indoors?
Playground surfaces are among the listed commercial applications, and the commercial page covers where else the company installs.
Want a real number for your own yard?
The consultation is free. Someone comes out, measures the space, talks through which turf suits how you use it, and the written quote follows from that.
